Despite the never ending rainfall, spring is springing up all over the Lake Norman area, and it has me SO excited to get outside for some fresh air and a little Vitamin D! When I think “spring” here in Davidson and the surrounding area, here are a few my favorite fresh finds around town.
Favorite Breakfast Spot: Famous Toastery (Davidson)
The courtyard out back at the Famous Toastery in Davidson just feels like spring to me. The ample sunshine makes in a perfect outdoor dining space, even on a crisp, cool spring day…it’s amazing how I’m totally willing to wrap myself up in a cozy cardigan and sit outside, as long as it means sunshine, the smell of fresh air and eggs benedict, and a pretty space where it’s totally acceptable and safe for my 2 crazy boys to run and climb on the surrounding brick walls, trees, and picnic tables while I sip my warm cup of coffee in peace. We love breakfast or brunch here on a weekend morning (or a weekday, sans kiddos, if our schedules allow!).
Favorite Spot for a Lunch Date on a Sunny Day:
North Harbor Club (Davidson) has a lovely outdoor dining space with comfy flexible seating, lots of sunshine, and gorgeous views of the lake. Sit outside, sip a cold drink, order the shrimp appetizer (the lemon aioli is delish!), watch the speedboats drive by, and droll over the beautiful yachts docked beside your table. Make sure you take a selfie to send to all your friends who live up north where it’s still way too cold to dine outside!
My Boys’ Favorite Easter Egg Hunt Event: Lazy 5 Ranch Easter Eggstravaganza
April 13th & 20th, 2019
We took our two boys last spring and they STILL talk about it! There is a fairly long wait to get in, so be prepared to sit in your car and wait in line for a while, BUT once you enter the ranch, there is ample parking and TONS to do. We actually didn’t end up driving through the normal animal ranch this trip, because they kids were so busy doing other things! Their favorite was the helicopter egg drop…this was a super fun change up from the normal egg hunt! At scheduled age group specific times, a helicopter drops colored eggs on a field, and the kids run to retrieve one egg of each color. They then get to trade in each colored egg for a different prize! They LOVED it! There is also a scavenger hunt at the zoo, live bunnies they can watch and pet, and a corn filled sand box area. My boys were entertained for hours and left exhausted…we called it a win! I highly recommend this event!
Favorite Spring Decor: Tulips!
Go to Harris Teeter. Buy all the $2 bunches of tulips. Place in little mason jars all over your house. Be happy. That is all.
Favorite Spring Cleaning Essential: Norwex Envirocloths
My husband thought these “clean with just water” microfiber clothes were a total gimmick, but even he is sold on these! We probably own 6 now in a variety of colors. Clean any surface in your home with just warm water…even my kids can safely help with cleaning chores using these clothes, especially my 8 year old who is always looking for ways to earn money for “Robux” (If you have an 8 year old…you know.)e They are durable, work great, and are machine washable, so they can be used time and time again! I use these for my kitchen and bath surfaces especially, and my husband has found a plethora of outdoor uses as well!
Favorite Fresh Face Essential: Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact
I have had one of these compacts in my makeup bag for YEARS. It’s the perfect amount of shimmer to add that touch of fresh glow to your winter skin to take you into spring. It’s not too sparkly or dark…just a subtly bit of light. I dust on lightly over my blush, and sometimes use as eyeshadow for a super quick, running-out-the-door makeup routine! This looks great over a summer tan too, so it’ll take you straight into the summer months as well.
Favorite Place to Take the Kiddos to Burn Energy on a Spring Day: Ramsey Creek Park (Cornelius)
My boys LOVE this park for so many reasons, from the super fun and unique zipline on the playground to the family friendly walking trails to the sandy beaches to the views of the boat launch. By the time temps hit 65, my boys are MORE than willing to be waist deep in the lake, and this park offers beautiful scenery and places for them to splash around, as well as run and climb. Ramsey Creek features a dog park and a public beach, but the tiny little pockets of shoreline found around this park are more than enough for 2 crazy boys to have fun with. We love to pack a picnic lunch, watch the boats take off, play on the playground and zipline a while, take a walk in the woods, splash around a bit, dry off, and head back home exhausted and happy. This is a great park for the whole family.
Favorite Spring All Purpose Bag: Rebecca Minkoff Julian Backpack in Nylon
As a working mom, I am finding more and more that the backpack trend is just plain genius and should stick around forever. This backpack comes in a super sophisticated pebbled leather, but I love the nylon version for spring! It comes in such fun colors, has a stylish and functional design, is durable, roomy, and perfect for hands free carrying of all the things, whether I am opening up doors for clients, running errands, or momming around town.
Favorite Place to Freshen Up Your Look for Spring: Virtue 31 Salon (Davidson)
There’s something about warm weather that always makes me want a fresh look. Entering its 6th month, this new and gorgeous upscale salon in Davidson offers peaceful relaxation, friendly conversation, and masterful stylists who truly love what they do…and they’re good! I have a lot of hair, and I don’t have a whole lot of skill in the styling department…I also don’t give a lot of direction, but I always leave feeling refreshed, more beautiful, and ready to conquer the world. Head to Virtue 31 for whatever makes you feel like spring, whether it’s some new highlights, a fresh cut, or a drastic change. You won’t be disappointed!
Here’s to hoping all these showers bring lots of spring flowers! I know my family is looking forward to saying goodbye to winter and enjoying the outdoor living we love so much living here in beautiful Lake Norman!
